In the film, Black’s Satan is a mischievous and manipulative trickster who delights in toying with the human characters. The actor’s comedic timing and over-the-top delivery bring the character to life, creating a villain who is both fearsome and hilarious.
“Jack Black is absolutely diabolical in this role,” said critic Justin Chang of The Los Angeles Times. “He relishes every moment, chewing the scenery with glee.”
Despite his villainous facade, Black’s Satan also has a surprising amount of depth. The film explores the character’s motivations and reveals a hidden vulnerability beneath his menacing exterior.
“What makes Jack’s performance so special is that he brings a genuine sense of pathos to the role,” said director Jake Kasdan. “He finds the humanity even in the darkest of characters.”
The film has received largely positive reviews, with critics praising Black’s performance as a highlight. Variety’s Owen Gleiberman called it “one of Black’s best performances in years,” while The Hollywood Reporter’s Todd McCarthy hailed it as “a tour de force.”
“Jumanji: The Next Level” is currently in theaters and has been a box office success. Black’s portrayal of Satan has undoubtedly contributed to the film’s popularity, proving that even the devil can be a crowd-pleaser when played by the right actor.
