Records Shattered as Ohio Football Triumphs in Myrtle Beach Bowl
The Ohio Bobcats football team etched their names in history on Monday, breaking multiple records in their resounding 30-21 victory over the Appalachian State Mountaineers in the Myrtle Beach Bowl.
Unprecedented Offensive Performance
The Bobcat offense exploded for a school-record 606 yards, surpassing the previous mark set in 2009. Quarterback Kurtis Rourke led the charge, throwing for 431 yards and four touchdowns, setting new program records for passing yards and passing touchdowns in a bowl game.
Ground Game Dominance
Ohio’s running game also flourished, gaining 175 yards on the ground. Running back Sieh Bangura rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown, becoming only the fourth Bobcat to rush for over 100 yards in a bowl game.
Defensive Heroics
The Bobcat defense played a key role in the victory, holding Appalachian State to just 21 points and forcing four turnovers. Linebacker Bryce Houston recorded a team-high nine tackles and two interceptions, while defensive tackle Jaheim Thomas added a crucial sack and fumble recovery.
Coach Joe Moorehead:
“This is a historic night for our program. The records broken and the performance on the field speak to the hard work and dedication of our players. We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished tonight, but we’re hungry for more.”
Looking Ahead
Ohio’s victory in the Myrtle Beach Bowl marks a significant milestone in the program’s history. The team will return a number of key players in 2023, including Rourke and Bangura, and will aim to continue their momentum in the upcoming season.
