The Denver Broncos defense is hoping to take a step forward in 2023, and they’ll be counting on outside linebacker Nik Bonitto to be a big part of that. Bonitto, a second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, showed flashes of his potential as a rookie, finishing with 3.5 sacks in 15 games.
Bonitto’s production could be even better in 2023, especially now that he has a full season under his belt. Defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero is confident that Bonitto can be a disruptive force.
Evero praised Bonitto’s athleticism, saying he has “all the tools to be a great pass rusher.” He’s got quickness, strength, and a relentless motor. He’s also very instinctive and has a knack for finding the football.
In addition to his natural ability, Bonitto has also been working hard to improve his technique.
Evero explained, “He’s really focused on developing his pass-rush moves and getting better at using his hands. He’s also learning how to read offenses and identify where the quarterback is going to be.”
Bonitto is expected to take on a bigger role in the Broncos’ defense in 2023. With Randy Gregory out for the season, Bonitto is likely to start opposite Bradley Chubb. This will give him more opportunities to rush the passer and make plays.
Evero believes that Bonitto is ready to break out in 2023.
“He’s got all the potential in the world,” Evero said. “He’s still learning and developing, but I think he’s going to have a big year.”
