Brian Schottenheimer Gets More Time to Impress Dallas Cowboys for the Head Coaching Position
Brian Schottenheimer, the Dallas Cowboys’ offensive coordinator since 2023, had a lengthy interview for the team’s head coaching position on Tuesday. According to Yahoo Sports’ Jori Epstein, the two parties will meet again on Wednesday as the Cowboys continue their search for Mike McCarthy’s successor.
Schottenheimer, the 51-year-old son of the late Marty Schottenheimer, is emerging as the frontrunner for the job. His familiarity with the organization under owner Jerry Jones, who values familiarity in his coaching hires, could give him an edge in the race.
Schottenheimer Now Betting Favorite for Cowboys HC Job
Schottenheimer has vaulted to the top of DraftKings’ betting odds at -250, indicating a heavy favorite. Kellen Moore, initially favored, has slipped to +250.
Schottenheimer’s Coaching History
Prior to joining the Cowboys, Schottenheimer was the offensive coordinator for the New York Jets, St. Louis Rams, and Seattle Seahawks. He also served as quarterbacks coach for the Washington Redskins and San Diego Chargers early in his career.
Schottenheimer’s Play-Calling Ambitions
If Schottenheimer secures a head coaching position, either with the Cowboys or elsewhere, he reportedly desires to take over play-calling responsibilities, a role held by McCarthy in Dallas.
Cowboys Coaching Search Process
Schottenheimer is the first known internal candidate to interview for the Cowboys’ head coaching vacancy. Team executives have previously spoken to Moore, Robert Saleh, and Leslie Frazier during the interview process.
