Giants Bench Daniel Jones for Tommy DeVito at Quarterback
Jones Out for Season with Neck Injury
East Rutherford, N.J. – The New York Giants have placed starting quarterback Daniel Jones on injured reserve with a neck injury, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports. Jones suffered the injury in Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles and will miss the rest of the season.
DeVito to Start in Jones’ Absence
With Jones out, the Giants will turn to backup quarterback Tommy DeVito to start under center. DeVito, a fourth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, has appeared in just one game for the Giants. He completed 2-of-3 passes for 17 yards in his NFL debut against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 7.
Offense Struggles Without Jones
The Giants’ offense has struggled mightily without Jones in the lineup. In the two games he has missed this season, the Giants have scored a total of 13 points. Jones has been a key part of the Giants’ offense this season, passing for 1,450 yards with six touchdowns and five interceptions.
Outlook for Giants
With Jones out for the season, the Giants’ playoff hopes are in jeopardy. The Giants are currently 4-7 and in third place in the NFC East. They have a tough schedule remaining, with games against the Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings, and Baltimore Ravens still on the docket.
Without Jones, the Giants will need to rely on their defense and running game to carry them the rest of the way. The Giants’ defense has been one of the best in the NFL this season, allowing an average of just 18.2 points per game. The running game has also been effective, with Saquon Barkley averaging 4.9 yards per carry.
If the Giants can continue to play well on defense and run the ball effectively, they may still have a chance to make a run at the playoffs. However, without Jones, the Giants’ offense is likely to continue to struggle.
