Tommy DeVito Not Expected to Play in Dallas
New York, NY – New York Giants backup quarterback Tommy DeVito is not expected to play in Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, according to multiple reports.
Injury Update
DeVito suffered a sprained MCL in his right knee during the Giants’ preseason game against the New England Patriots last week. The injury is not considered serious, but he is expected to miss at least one game.
In a statement released by the Giants, head coach Joe Judge said, “Tommy is a tough kid, and he’s working hard to get back on the field as soon as possible. We’re not going to rush him back, but we’re hopeful that he’ll be ready to go next week.”
Impact on Team
DeVito’s absence will likely mean more playing time for third-string quarterback Mike Glennon. Glennon, a 32-year-old veteran, has started 43 games in his career, but he has not played in a regular season game since 2019.
“Mike is a smart player who knows our system,” Judge said. “We’re confident that he can step in and get the job done.”
Outlook
The Giants are hoping to rebound from a disappointing 4-13 season in 2021. They have high hopes for DeVito, who was a standout at Syracuse before being drafted by the Giants in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
DeVito’s injury is a setback, but the Giants are confident that they have the depth at quarterback to overcome it. They will face a tough test on Sunday against the Cowboys, who are one of the favorites to win the NFC East this season.
